A Quilting Tour

by | Sep 14, 2015 | Life

I received this text from my Mom this week.

My first thought after reading this was, “Obligated?” Are you kidding me? 🙂 Who could ever feel obligated to receive such an heirloom of a gift. Silly Mom.

The next day she sent me pictures of three options she had made.

She wasn’t happy with the quality of the top right photo, but it didn’t matter. When I saw the quilt on the left, I knew that was the one for the guest bedroom.  It is so bright and cheery!

Since Samantha moved back to college,  I haven’t established a color theme in the now guest room and this quilt will allow so many different options. Love it!

But then I got to thinking….you should see more of my Mom’s amazing work.

What she doesn’t know is that when I was at my parents house this summer to take her on her birthday trip, I snuck around and took pictures of her other quilts and how she has displayed them in their home.

Let’s go on a little home quilt tour, shall we?

These are the quilts in the Gathering Room, a place where we all end up playing cards, laughing and being a family.

Off of the Gathering room is the kitchen. They have since updated the kitchen with beautiful tile under the counters and a complimentary paint on the other walls. And knowing my Mother, she has created yet another beautiful piece for the island.

The dining area is next to the kitchen and the corner is decorated with an antique table displaying a quilted runner plus a quilt casually “thrown” over a set of tall wooden shutters.

Off of the dining area is the front room, filled with antiques and this little beauty. I think my Dad made the little quilt rack. His woodworking skills will have to wait for another day. 🙂

In the back of their home are three bedrooms. I wish I would’ve snuck into the master bedroom to take a picture of the blue and yellow bedspread quilt my Mom made but I didn’t want to get caught.  🙂

In the second bedroom they have hung this quilt for decoration. It hangs across from two corner windows and is highlighted as the sun rises and sets.

Only one time have I convinced my Mom to sell one of her quilts in my Etsy shop.  I purchased the fabric and paid for the final quilting, but she wouldn’t allow me to pay her for her time.  Her joy comes from creating and giving them to family and friends.

On every quilt she adds a square fabric tag in the corner showing the year it was made.  She keeps track of all the quilts she makes and adds the number on the corner tag, and as you can see she already gifted 16 finished quilts as of 2010.

My Mom is so talented and I am so blessed to have her as my Mom.  🙂
