How to Tie Together a Halloween Costume and a Welcome Home Sign

by | Oct 28, 2015 | New Products

Although our children are beyond the years of trick or treating door to door, I still look forward to Halloween every year to answer the door bell and hand out candy to all of the little kids that come by in their costumes.

Our good friends will not be able to swing by this year because they have a birthday party/Halloween party to attend that night.  🙁

But when I was at their house the other day, I got the Halloween costume preview.  Fireman Logan, like any good fireman, takes his job very seriously. 🙂

The reason I stopped by was that Alyssa, the fireman’s Mother, is going to start contributing to my Etsy shop!

Let me refresh your memory or re-introduce you to Alyssa. This was the initial introduction.  Along with being former neighbors and friends, we attend exercise classes at the local YMCA. Gillian the instructor is on the left, she is on the right, and that is Liam. 🙂

Alyssa is so creative and talented. She will be listing new items as time allows. She will create and I will ship. Win-win.

The day I stopped by Alyssa was working on a new piece of wall art and she let me snap some pictures of her process.

She paints each piece with watered down white paint. She calls it white washing.

My favorite part about this picture is that Alyssa’s Dad is a Master Plumber by trade not to mention a carpenter and handyman. She worked side by side with her Dad for many years and now she is passing down those skills to Logan. I love the concentration on their faces.

Her next step after everything dries, is to gather her supplies and lay out her plan before she starts to create. She bought her stencils at Michaels and the Sharpie paint pens from JoAnn Fabrics. The board was an old cupboard door from her parents house.

Today she was working on a Welcome Home sign. Liam, yep that Liam supervised. The look of concentration must run in the family, even if you have a towel on your head.

Her final step is to lightly sand each piece giving it a rustic look. No pictures of the sanding, I was busy feeding the supervisor.

Each piece Alyssa creates is a one of a kind and each will be listed separately in my shop. The picture listed will be the actual piece you receive.

There are so many fun ways to display her creations.

Thank you Alyssa for adding such great items to the shop!

One more thing. I will be sharing the master bedroom and bathroom Home Tour on Friday! I hope you have a chance to stop by!
