3 Easy Steps To Make Wood Block Decor

by | Oct 29, 2016 | DIY | 1 comment

I work out of my home. You know that. But what I mean is that I work out of my home and end up spending ALL of my time at home. When my neighbor Becky asked me to go to a craft class with her, I jumped at the chance.

It was one of those classes where people go and are taught how to make a craft while partaking in a few adult beverages. I’m sure you’ve heard of them before. They are very trendy. This class was sponsored by the St. Francis Area Women of Today.

I was shocked as to how easy this craft looked to make. This was an example we looked at for inspiration.

The blocks were precut to the correct sizes, the letters we used were stickers and the paint was supplied, so really all it took was three simple steps. Paint the blocks, layout the stickers so they are spaced correctly, and put a ribbon on it!

And those three easy steps are what everyone else in the class did.

But I, the not good at following directions…went rogue.

I decide that instead of painting the blocks a solid color, I would do more of a whitewash. In the same plastic cup that was offered for a glass of wine, I put a quarter size drop of paint and added about a quarter cup of water, mixed it together and painted the blocks.

Which turned out looking like watercolor instead of whitewash…

Oops.

I originally picked out stickers with a cute black font, but there weren’t enough of the letters I needed to spell out the saying I wanted.

The saying was, “Nice, Naughty, I Really Tried” with a box to check beside each saying determining what you want Santa to know.  🙂

Here’s a link to give you an example.

After many different sticker sheets and many failed attempts to find all of the letters I needed, I found these metal letters that are usually used on mailboxes.

Not to delay your anticipation any longer…. This is what I came up with.

Seriously, this is what I created.

Not my best work.

I am going to go back upstairs and continue painting the bedroom. At least there I can re-build my self-esteem. 🙂

P.S. This is Sam, I probably have the same questions as you. How can my Mom recreate whole pieces of furniture and not be able to paint blocks? There may never be an answer.
