You’ve Got A Friend In Me

You’ve Got A Friend In Me

Today marks my 100th post!

To you seasoned bloggers and blog readers, that may not seem like a big deal.

When I look back and remember stressing about what the heck I was going to write about three times or more a week, entering my 100th post is huge. I’d be lying if I said that there wasn’t an element of stress and nervousness when thinking about what to say, but blogging becomes more and more fun every day.

One of the greatest things about having a blog and selling on Etsy is that I get to interact with customers.

I love it when customers send me pictures of the items they have purchased and how they are using them in their homes.

With Valentines Day approaching, many people are gobbling up the heart pillows I have for sale.

One such gobble was from Shandy. She purchased this cover.

In addition to her purchase, she sent me a conversation (convo) via Etsy once she had received the cover.

Perfect! Using it for my vday sessions! I’ll be sure to send a pic when I do them 🙂

Many times people say that they will send me a picture. People, including myself get busy or plain ole forget, so it was nice when a few weeks later, Shandy sent me this convo with a picture attached from her vday session.

We used your adorable pillow in a quick little fun lifestyle shoot today. I love it!!

Such a fun picture! I wanted to know more about Shandy and her photo.

This is what she shared.

Well my name is Shandy Johnson and I own and operate P. Grey Photography. My husband and I have 4 children. 13, 11, 9.5, and 4. We live in Atlanta.

I am mom first. All mommy duties come first. I do not miss games or practices of any sort. My clients know this and understand 100%. With 4 kids we are pretty hectic but I try to be as flexible as I can be.

I’ve been a photographer for roughly 2 years. I am mostly a children/family photographer. I am a lover of natural light. I do have a small studio inside my home that I use for newborns and small toddlers if the weather does not cooperate but even then I only use natural light.

I’m a total prop junkie. My favorite prop would be a very vintage suitcase. It’s my go to prop for kids. They love sitting on it or carrying it around. It’s definitely my favorite.

I like to go around to antique stores and see what I can find. Sometimes I’ll even stumble upon some goodies at Goodwill. Someone’s junk is always someone else’s treasure Face with tears of joy. I love vintage and rustic and anything “different” I can get my hands on.

My youngest is my little partner. She endures mini photo sessions frequently, with bribes of course!! No shame in my game. LOL

I absolutely love my job. I do what I do because it makes me smile. I am probably the most affordable in our area. My own clients tell me I should charge more. I guess my thing about it is, the more affordable I am, the more you will use me. I’d much rather see clients multiple times a year vs once a year. I have amazing relationships with my clients. I always joke and tell them after one session, they’ll be hooked. And it always happens!! I just have so much fun doing what I love.I would send my website info…but I don’t even have one. Crazy right?! I have a business page on Facebook. (P. Grey Photography) That’s it. Maybe one day I will build up a website. I try not to stress out about the business part of it. I stay pretty busy. I think for January I have about 46 sessions booked. Which is totally awesome! I love it.
When people ask me what I do for a living I simply say I’m a stay at home photographer. LOL.
Now can you see why I wanted you to meet Shandy? If we lived in Atlanta, she would be my go to photographer for my children and family. Thank you for sharing all of your wonderful photos and words Shandy!
See you on Friday,
Wendy

Spending the afternoon with Spencer

Spending the afternoon with Spencer

I wish you all would’ve come over to my house yesterday and spent the day with Spencer and I.

He came up in the morning for his monthly photo/teaching/motivation session with me. We had so much fun.

The first hour was filled with catching up stories. He had been to Texas over the holidays so I wanted to hear all about his adventures and of course I had to share with him the stories of Arthur aka Arty his dog that had stayed with us while he was gone.

You’ve seen this photo of Arthur, but I forgot to tell you that he had written a poem titled, Revelations – Arthur’s 2015 Poem.

Read it, please. This is one amazing dog.

Of course a person with so much creativity would own a dog that is also full of ideas and thoughts. And to organize those thoughts in the form of a poem, not to mention that Arthur doesn’t even have thumbs…beyond all comprehension. 🙂

We had so many more stories to swap but it was time to get to work. This is what work looks like for the two of us. Make that the three of us. Roni, the cat had to get her 15 seconds of fame.

We used my new plank wallpaper wall as the background for yesterday’s shoot. There is so much natural light coming in through the windows, it makes for a great studio set up area.

I love to see what Spencer creates through his lens.

Let me show you.

Scroll back up and notice the “Love” sign he is photographing.

This is how that photo turned out.

Pretty nice, right?!?

Sometimes after Spencer shows me a photo and I comment that I like it, he pauses. Naturally I ask, What? What are you thinking?  I have learned over time that that pause is because he is thinking, Can it be better?

And this is how he defines better.

Love.

More like…Better. Superior. Beyond my expectations!

We/He shot two more signs. I didn’t know at the time that Spencer took this photo. We had used broken skewers to prop the sign up, because, well…sometimes even “love” needs help to stand tall. 🙂

Here is another font of Love

And an Eat wall art option.

These signs or wall art have been cut by Jack, my 17 year-old craftsman. 🙂  They are cut from 16 gauge steel and are about 7 inches tall and 11 inches long. This is the same material that he cut the custom signs from that I chatted about in a previous post.

From steel wall art, we moved on to Checkers for lunch. A working lunch mind you.

Now are bellies were full and we were ready to tackle the new light fixtures I have made and then some candid DIY shots. All of which I will share with you later.

But here is a sneak peek. Just to peak your curiosity.

I have a couple Sidenotes to share tomorrow. I’d love for you to stop by.

Wendy

If you are interested in purchasing a sign, clicking on the word Love or Eat that is highlighted above the pictures will take you to my shop. 🙂

I’ve been featured, again!

I’ve been featured, again!

In the world of Etsy, there are hundreds of thousands of shops.  Within those shops are tens of thousands of shops that sell pillows.  Within those shops there are thousands of shops that sell pillows with a Valentines Day theme. So imagine my surprise when  I was contacted by this magazine

to be featured in their Valentines Day Issue!  My first thought was, How did you ever find me? Then I couldn’t respond fast enough. Yes, that would be great, thank you!

They needed a certain pixal/jpg type of picture so thank goodness for Spencer that he knew exactly what they were talking about. Here is the picture we sent, all pixaled and jpged.  🙂

And here is what the Twinkle Twinkle Little Party presented in their magazine.

Talk about a great ego moment.  I was famous!  🙂

But wait, there’s more. The blog OurBestFinds.com is developed by Spencer and his business partner Kayla.  Yes, my product photographer/nephew Spencer. His talent is limitless.  They are expanding their business from this…

…and asked if I would like to be their first blog question and answer feature segment.  This time I knew how they found me, but again, Yes, that would be great and Thank You! They already have over 11,000 followers on Instagram.  That amazes me.

Here is the feature from their blog.  Thanks OurBestFinds!

It never gets old feeling like a rockstar.  🙂
