Season Finale

Season Finale

This will be the season finale about the stairs. The wrap up. The final curtain call. The last edition.

The last time I will mention and show pictures.

Bahahaha, who am I kidding?

I love these stairs so much that you will see sneaks and peeks forever. 🙂

Before I jump into the financials of everything, I wanted to show you one of the things that made these steps amazing.

After the carpet was ripped off, I noticed that the stairs were not snug up against the edges. Not a big problem considering each and everyone one of them would be replaced.

Steve meticulously measured and remeasured each and every one of those treads and risers before cutting them so that they fit perfectly.

See the difference?

That is the sign of a craftsman. Thank you for all of your hard work Steve. : )

Without further delay, here is the bullet point lists of costs for supplies:

  • 16 pine treads $170
  • 17 pine risers $119
  • 1 quart of stain $34
  • 1 quart of paint $12
  • 1 can of wipe on polyurethane $12
  • 2 packages of protective gloves $12
  • 1 can of mineral spirits $5
  • 2 packages of 80 to 120 grit sandpaper $6
  • 1 new brush for staining $8
  • 1 tube of tub and tile caulk $free from Steve
  • 1 small jar of wood putty $4
  • 1 small tub of spackling $8

Grand Total: $390

Time it took from the beginning of the project to the final touch ups? Realistically, about 3 weeks.

Time it took if we would have worked night and day, never eaten, slept or seen our loved ones…..2 days.

Remember the show with Ty Pennington, Extreme Makeover? They built an entire house in 7 days. I guess none of them had loved ones.  ha.

Happy Monday everyone and thank you all for following along and your wonderful comments.  I love hearing from all of you!

Are You Sitting Down?

Are You Sitting Down?

I hope you’re sitting down. This is going to be a post of pictures.

I am not 100% finished with the stairs, but I get so excited to see the Afters from other blogs, that I didn’t want to keep you in suspense any longer.

So without further delay…..

17 beautiful wooden steps. I love them, every single one of them.

What’s that? You want to see a side by side before and after? Your wish is my command.

Don’t you think that they now have a personality? I mean before they looked like, well….beige carpeted stairs. Now they have definition and depth and make a statement.

What? Now you want to see a before, a middle and an after? Twist my arm.

Say it again? You want to see some different angles and close ups? I would love to.

A wrap up post will be coming for those of you that want to know the details. Details such as cost, time, process and supplies.

Also, I bought a camera today. You might be saying to yourself, Wendy, you just posted 10 pictures you already have a camera not to mention that Spencer takes amazing photos for you.

Very true statements.

80% of the photos used on my blog are taken from my iPhone. The other 20% that I get compliments about everyday are from the monthly photo session Spencer and I schedule.

Spencer lives 45 minutes south of me and has many other clients besides myself. Although he would love to take all of my photos, it is not logical that he be here everyday, all day, incase I need a photo taken.  🙂

So today was the day that I purchased my very first camera. I bought a D7200 Nikon. At this point of my photography career, this means nothing to me.  ha.

I picked this camera because the box said “the choice of professionals worldwide”.

Kidding. Spencer and I had discussed the basics I should start with and then I got a couple of bells and whistles.

Some day I will write a post about some photography tips and tricks using all of the lingo.

Some day. 🙂

Until that day, I hope you notice a steady improvement of the quality of photos and maybe someday you won’t be able to tell if Spencer took the photo or if I did.

Home Tour 2015: The Sitting Area and Guest Bedroom

Home Tour 2015: The Sitting Area and Guest Bedroom

We had a great Halloween weekend with our neighbors!

As we were both reviewing and sending each other pictures from the weekend, pictures that will never make it onto this blog, 🙂 , I found a photo from our previous house.

I forgot how much I loved the painted staircase!

I removed the carpet from the stairs, added stained oak treads and painted the back of the risers the same color as the kitchen cupboards.

I was so on top of it that day! 🙂

Now we have the “stairway to heaven” in this house and I am really feeling that I need to do the same thing here. I’ll let you know how that progresses.

Looking at these stairs, the wall on the left is the back wall to Wade’s office and the spindles on the right you can see behind the couch.

Those 17 steps lead to a small sitting area.

When we first bought the house, I thought it was a kind of goofy area. I think I have moved chairs around, a bench placed in a couple of different spots and even attempted the minimalist approach to the area. Minimalism made it look like it was waiting for something. The bench and chairs were too much.

I split up my Queen Ann chairs leaving one in this area and the other in the guest bedroom in front of my desk. I then moved in a small antique table and a lamp and topped it off with some fun pieces.

It works really well when guests come to visit, i.e. my parents. My Mom is an early riser and many mornings I have found her sitting in the chair with her morning coffee and reading her local news from her iPad.

I think I will keep the sitting area as a sitting area. 🙂

The guest bedroom is right around the corner from here. You’ve already seen most of the pictures from this bedroom when I posted about the quilt my Mom made for me. Across from the bed is my desk where I work on my blog. Spencer took great shots of the room.

To refresh your memory….

These are the last two rooms for the Home Tour 2015.  Maybe I should make a Home Tour 2015: The first week of October, the second week of October etc. When I was looking at these pictures, I noticed that I have changed a lot of things around.

This girl loves change!

I have dug into my Christmas box and on Wednesday I will show you some things I have set up.

I hope you stop by!
