Happy Valentines Day

Happy Valentines Day!

I have the cutest guest blogger today. My Sam.

Hi everyone! It’s Sam. I’m back. Mom asked me to write a guest post for Valentines Day.

So, before I start I have to say that I don’t have strong feelings towards this holiday. I know some people love it and celebrate everyone in their life and all the ones they love. And other people hate it, they think it is a holiday where people spend too much money and/or it makes them feel lonely.

I think it’s just nice to have a specific day to show people in your life that you love and appreciate them.

With that being said, I don’t usually go above and beyond with presents for this holiday. Well…I usually don’t go above and beyond presents ever because I’m still in college, working part-time and money is tight.

So, I was thrilled when Mom suggested I print out this free wall art from Houzz.com for a Valentine’s Day present.

Justin and I don’t have a ton of decoration in our apartment. This little section above our couch in the living room is my pride and joy. Unfortunately, Justin doesn’t agree.

Justin strongly dislikes the anchor wall art that’s hanging now because we have anchors all over (I’m a little obsessed), so even though he may not appreciate home décor as a gift, I think he’ll appreciate this.

I’ll have to keep you updated on that. 🙂

Here’s the finished project! I love it!

Happy Valentines Day!

Holiday in Review

Holiday in Review

I hope everyone had a great holiday!

We had a very relaxing time. With our children being in the actual “young adults” category now, we found that we had more time together as a couple while the kids were off with their friends enjoying the holiday break.

But our house was not silent. While Spencer was spending time with his family, we enjoyed the energy of Arty, his terrier mix rescue dog. We put down our 10 year old black lab a couple of years ago and we both had forgotten how much fun…and work… and noise a dog can make around the house.

We made time to see two movies in an actual theatre, not a Redbox or Netflix movie. First we went to Sisters with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. It was funny, but I wanted it to be funnier. Don’t watch all of the previews, just go to the movie. It will be better that way. On Christmas Day, we went to see Joy starring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper. This was the first time that I have been to a movie on Christmas day, but a lot of people go to movies on Christmas. Who knew? Anyway, Joy was very good and inspirational. Slow at times, but still a good message.

On the 26th we awoke to 4 inches of fresh snow. I am not a fan of cold and snow, but seeing all of the muddy brown and green ground covered with clean white snow was beautiful.

All of that snow finally put me in the Christmas spirit as I took down all of my Christmas décor. I was ready for a change. I love all of the tradition of decorating for the holidays but I also love moving on.

I am so looking forward to getting back into the studio and creating new items for the shop. I have big dreams of using my new scroll saw! Those dreams are so big that I haven’t even bought the scroll saw yet.

Regardless, I am going to make some small Valentine cut out creations and some birch branch flower holders. Picture this: a rustic 6 inch birch branch with a single plump red rose innocently stating,” I simply love you.” That just came to me. Hallmark should be calling soon.

Spencer will be stopping by on Wednesday with a post for all of us. I love how he writes and I love his photos.

So for now, as the kids say….See you next year!
