DIY Therapy

by | Oct 6, 2016 | DIY | 2 comments

I had some doctor appointments yesterday. Just regular run of the mill doctor appointments. After the nurse took my blood pressure and pulse, I sat in the little room and waited.

And waited.

And waited for 33 long minutes until the doctor came in. Good thing I had my iPhone all charged up. Usually I would have waited about 10 minutes, max, before hunting down a nurse and asking how much longer the doctor would be.

But not yesterday. Like I said, I had my iPhone all charged up and amazingly had a great signal, so I distracted myself by shopping for paint.

Sherwin Williams has a great online shopping site here. They made it really easy to find the perfect color to paint the guest bedroom.

By the time my appointment was finally over I needed some major DIY therapy. So I drove to my nearest Sherwin Williams store and picked out the colors I had looked at. Because phone and computer screens can distort the true color of things, I suggest that you always grab paint swatches to bring home. The lighting in your own home can also distort the color swatches, so make sure to take them home to see what they look like in the lighting in your house.

Here is the potential color palette for the guest bedroom.

And I also loved this pamphlet that pulled everything together.

Once I got home, I didn’t have enough time to start painting, but I had an idea for a quick little project. The hydrangea my neighbors had so graciously let me pick were dry enough to make a quick wreath.

I used a 20” grapevine wreath that my friend Alyssa had made, which are on sale in my Etsy shop. After removing the leaves from the hydrangea to expose more of the stem, I poked it through the wreath at an angle so it “laid down”.  Then I stuck two other stems on each side of  the first one.

I continued to work with three flowers at a time, one stem in the middle and one on each side making sure the tops of the flowers all pointed the same way. To make the wreath look great, I made sure that the flowers didn’t crowd the center. This way it kept a wreath shape and didn’t end up looking like a blob. 🙂

You don’t have to cover the entire grapevine with flowers. If you want you can stop after covering about ¼  of the wreath.

Or continue working around the grapevine and cover ½ of it.

Remember if you choose to only partially cover the wreath in flowers or cover the whole thing, you need to make sure none of the stems stick out. You can easily wind them into the grapevine.

What do you think? Do you like the full wreath or a partially filled wreath? Maybe add a ribbon?
